I can almost hear Hamilton throughout the book recounting, in wonderfully descriptive terms, the many influences that shaped him in his youth. His recall for detail is stunning -- but whose wouldn't be if you had to stand in a Centurion get-up in front of your classmates in Miss Dobbins' Latin Class Hamilton was always very perceptive about how to read people and how to connect with them, and his vivid recollections show us this was a lifelong trait. Before I had gotten very far, I already knew I wanted this book to be longer than it is. And if he were here with us today I would say, "Why didn't you tell me you were on a first-name basis with Otis Redding!" Bravo to all on this wonderful retelling of a lad's early days growing up in the South. I grew up about fifty miles from Albany (Mr Jordan's hometown) and shared many similar experiences.
